The last few weeks my sunburst platy has been getting larger in a bad way. Please tell me what I should do if she is!!!!! PLEASE!!!

I have a question on my angelfish acting strange, I have 2 large angelfish, the male is a wild color, and the female a black veil. i have had them for about 3 to 4 months now. I had also had a gold female, but then she died. I think my levels got out of balanced and she sat on the floor for about 3 days and then died. well anyway. when i would go to the tank my fish would always notice me and carry on, even the angel fish would catch on, but now I notice that my black female is now staying toward the bottom, shes not sitting but shes just there, she doesn't seem scared or nothing, just sits there uninterested, there's no signs of sickness, no illness, the levels are perfect. The male now I have noticed is sticking around her more, and is chasing away the other fish that goes near, I looked for eggs. but none. I dont know whats going on. I have a dragon goby and i made a cave out of terracotta pots and they're lingering above there.

First off I want to say that your angel fish is beautiful, I find that it can sometimes be hard for the pictures to do the fish justice.

With your sunburst platy it is likely she is pregnant. With my platys they start getting bigger around the middle and eventually start to look squared looking like they are ready to burst. Just make sure that she does not have scales that are sticking out, because then that would be something different than being pregnant. What to do entirely depends on what you want to do with the fry. If they are in the same tank as the angel and the tetras they will become fish food. It is possible to have some survive if you have enough places for the fry to hide, like plants. If you want to raise the fry you might want to consider an additional tank that you can keep the fry in so that they can grow to a size in which they would no longer be fish food. The next question is if you raise the fry what do you plan to do with them? Are you going to keep them, give them away, or try to sell them. If keeping them you will need extra tank space.

Thank you for the information. And yes I have decided that I will use my left over 3 gallon tank to keep them alive, and I do plan on giving some to my friend because she asked for some when they are born.

Your welcome One other suggestion I might make is once you have the smaller tank cycled is moving the female platy in there until she drops her fry. Afterwards you can move her back with eveyone else. From experience I have found it can be difficult catching the fry once they have been dropped in the main tank had one lone fry that I saw a couple of weeks ago did not see him again. My guess is that he became a snack for somebody. A simple sponge filter would work well for filtration.

I was just wondering, how should I dispose of my angel fish when he dies????????? Not down the toilet!!!!!!! It will clog it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know this seems weird but I need to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh.... I am hoping this does not mean that you have lost your angel fish. I haven't had to face disposing of a dead angel fish yet, but a couple of ways that come to mind. If you have a yard available to you, you could always bury it an option that is not available to me with living in an apartment. Also not to sound mean or with out feeling, since we do become attached to the fish and other animals that we keep but if unable to bury it you can always dispose of it in the trash. Really hoping that you did not loose your angel
