When to turn on/off lights.

I know this is a newbie question but I have a 20g tank that I just got and am cycling with fancy guppies. 2 males and 4 females. During the day I have the light on but I was wondering how long should I leave the light on during the night? Am I suppose to just leave it on the whole time or do fishes need nighttime also?

i could be wrong, but im fairly sure that its ok to turn the lights off at night. as in nature.... it gets dark...
