This is a discussion on What type of Platy are these? within the Livebearers forums, part of the Freshwater and Tropical Fish category; --> pretty self explanatory. I think the pair are sunset platy. But I don't know about the painted one....

The first looks like a cross between a sunburst platy and a mickey mouse, and the second is a sunburst platy.

Ok thanks but one question. Why does the female pick on the hybrid? (the pair is boy girl and the hybrid is male)

I think the first pic is a tuxedo/sunburst cross.. I have the same babies at the moment

As far as the female picking on the male, platy's can bond closely to one particular male, so she's probably telling him to naff off.. If they are your only platy's, if you can (ie have room) I'd get a few more females. One, the lone female won't feel so harassed and two, the hybrid male will have someone new to chase.. All the research I've done suggests a ratio of 1 male:3 females

Hope this helps!

Oh and I hope you're ready for a baby explosion, coz there WILL be one!
