Question Weird Platies...

So I have had these platies (and molly tank mates) for a few months now, they have all been healthy and friendly.
Well about two days ago all the Platies have started acting weird. They do not come up to eat in the morning (which they used to all zoom right up). The few that eat have to run into the glass a few times then they only eat the flakes that land on the bottom. And all day they do not come out of hiding, they are also suddenly afraid of me.
I have in the tank 4 adult Platy (1 male 3 females), 2 Platy fry, 1 adult Molly, and 1 Molly fry. Both male and female Platy are acting like this, so are the babies, which previously were never afraid of me nor hid at feeding time. They do not even like treats anymore (I give them shrimp pellets, frozen bloodworms, and algae flakes).
The Molly and her fry are the only ones still acting like themselves. I have changed nothing about the tank or it's care. (feed the same time and amount, siphon on the same days, no new decor, ect.)

Just curious if anyone knew why they might be like this and if I should be concerned.

Checked on them and they are all stacked together between the tank wall and a plant. And now the adult Molly is acting afraid of me too. :/

I wish I have a more definitive answer for you, I can only tell you mine were doing the exact same thing, and I ended up loosing one. Not knowing what else to do (after testing the water and it was fine) I did a 20% water change.

The next day they seemed to perk up a bit, but still no eating.

I did another water change after 2 days, and by the next day after that they started eating again (a little bit), and no more hiding. My tank is newly cycled, so maybe unrelated to your problem. It's only been about 4-5 days now since they been doing well, so I think Im just going to keep doing small water changes for a bit.

I hope it works out for you and your fishies!

My tank is cycled so I do not think it is that. :)

Well I decided to give them a little bit of frozen bloodworms to see if they would perk up and after about an hour or so they are starting to explore a little again. I hope they keep improving, I would hate to lose any of my fish.
Weird that giving them a treat would make them act more normal.

After thinking about it a bit more. The only other thing I noticed shortly before they starting moving around again (I'm only talking about two of them) is that I noticed a whole bunch of poops floating around trying to find it's way to the filter, then it seemed like 15 mins later, they were acting almost normal. So maybe constipated?

I'll be curious to see what you find because mine, like I said were doing exactly what yours are doing.
Only time I would see them out is when I just walked in the room, as soon as they spotted me, it was back behind the plant they went.

Mine went back to hiding now too. :/

Well just in case they are developing something I increased the temp a little and put some aq salt in there. Does not seem to be helping as of now but I am out of ideas.

Well woke up this morning to find my Sunset Wag Platy dead. :/

The others came up to eat this time though, however they are still afriad of me and hide when no food is around.

Say, if they can tell one fish is about to die will it make the other fish act weird?

I don't know, mine were still hiding for a couple days after the first one died. Since no one else has jumped in yet, and a water change was the only thing that brought mine out (or seemed to), maybe give it a try today. What can it hurt?

I just finished doing a water change, they are hiding now but when I was first done two of them swam up to greet me. Hopefully this helps them.

there is more to water changes than just ammonia/nitrite/nitrate. there are other things in your water, released by fish, that build up over time and can cause stress. a water change is pretty much always a good idea, since a lot of the things that can cause problems for fish can't be tested for. even in a well planted tank that never reads any ammonia/nitrite/nitrate, a water change can resolve problems.

Thank you for the advice!
So how often should I do water changes? They are in a 14g that I normally siphon on tuesdays and change water every friday.
