I've had this female guppy for 14 days and she was already plenty preggers when I bought her.
Every time she poops I get all excited and then I realize... it's not a baby.
Rawr.
I only have 1 male and 1 female (I know I know, I should have more females), and he chases her around all the time. Do you think that's stressing her out too much? Should I move him? He's kind of a pain in the butt.
If you want her and they fry to live, he should be moved. Guppy fry are small buggers and can easily be eaten. A picture of her will give us some idea of when she will drop. If she looks like she is going to pop, she is holding back fry, waiting for a safe time.
when a female is giving birth the baby kinda fires out.....but you see it moving along the bottom of the female as its on its way.....where as a poo would take longer (sorry)...hope this helps
Hi' When she starts giving birth there will be little ones every where. One of my female guppie had around 50 young ones plus i have 6 more waiting to give birth i at to put those i another tank. And the babies are in a 2FT tank.Mark
Can I put her in a breeder net?
I'd put him in there to avoid stressing her but she's in a community tank and I think my dwarf gouramis would probably eat the fry.
I sure hope so!
She's looked like that for a while though :\
But maybe now that she's safe in a breeder net? She's eating normally (like a piggy actually). I just don't know.
She is just pooping non stop. Literally non-stop. And I actually saw her eat her own poop, without spitting it out.
I don't know what's wrong with this freakin' guppy!
If you have the room in your tank you may want to consider getting a couple more females. That would reduce the harassment from the male on the one female. Of course then you will be having more babies. But the gouramis would help with population control.;-)
I hope she has her babies now that you moved the male!! I'm trying that with my molly's right now. I just moved my male to the breeder tank and I'm hoping that she will give birth now that he's not mating with her and harassing constantly!! I don't have a ton of room in my tank, it's a 29 gal, and I want to keep some of the fry, so I'm adopting out my male balloon molly to a good home. That way when the molly's are done giving birth, over the next several months, I wont have to worry about anymore babies! Post pics as soon as she has them!!!
Take care!

BABIES!!
I came home from spring break and there are 7 babies in there! They're so cute! <3
I put mama back in the big tank, along with a new female. She's still huge as ever, but I guess that's just guppies for you.
I have no idea how many she ate but I'm glad I have 7 very healthy and perfectly formed babies!
UPDATE: This same guppy had babies again last night! She was just so huge and the male wouldn't leave her alone so I put her in a fish bowl. There she had 50 babies over the course of a few hours. 50 babies! Not including the three or so that were stillborn or died soon after birth, and the one she ate. The dead ones became tasty snacks for my other fish
Thanks! I've set up an old 10 gallon for them to grow out in, I was not expecting that many fry! It's being used to hospitalize some fish atm, so they're in a breeder net in the 20 gal, but I'll clean it and move them in there in about a week or so.
You should have seen this guppy, her belly was HUUUGE! She's now back to normal size, which is crazy to see. She must feel so much better!
