Shrimp and livebearers

i want to put some kind of shrimp with my platy and swordtail, and my male betta (yea i know he is anabantids, and should be in that section), i'm not sure what kind they sell at my lfs but they are clear in colour i think. is it worth putting a few in my 8gallon tank or wait till i upgrade hopefully in a few months to about 20-30 gallons? also if i can put some in now how many ( i can try find out what kind they are)? and will my other fish eat them ( i also have 3 small plecos)

Your betta, platies and swordtails will eat the shrimps. Guppies and Endlers though will not likely do it.

ok thanks i dont want to spend money if they arent going to survive, what other combinations will be ok when i hopefully upgrade should i just add more swordtails and platies as i have 13 swordtail babies so as they arent my males offspring i can choose wether i keep the males or females. also i have 2-3 platy offspring so i can only keep the males from that lot

Add more only when you upgrade your tank.

Depends on you. If you want more fish, you have to make sure you do plenty of water changes. Bottom dwellers would be the fish you add next. Otos or cories maybe.

I had shrimp with my platies and swordtail and they didn't bother them. My dwarf gourami did though. The betta would be the only one I would worry about although my betta peacefully lives with 5 ghost shrimp. You could try it. Ghost shrimp are only about 46 cents at my local petsmart.
