Is this a safe method to separate a fish?

I have a critter carrier. You know those things with thing and they have the roof that has holes in it.

I was thinking of putting that at the bottom of my tank and trapping the unpregnant mother inside.

She seems to be bothering my pregnant Guppy.

Would she drown? Is there still gonna be oxygen in the water? I dont have an airpump but i do have a power filter.

Guppies dont ever go to the surface for air?

I would have to suggest against this... for a number of reasons.
First, there would not be enough circulation in that critter container for her to keep a steady oxygen supply, or for waste to filter our properly.
Second, how is she going to get enough food to eat?
Third, stress!!!!!

This would be a bad idea all the way around. The better thing to do is to set up a seperate aquarium for the fry, put her into it, and when you see fry, move her back to the main tank.

Another option would be to increase the plants (especially dense and floating plants) in the tank, allowing plenty of hiding places for the fry where the adults can't get to them to eat them.

How big is the original tank? How many and what other fish are in this tank? The more details you can give us the more we can help.

Actually this is my Guppy tank.

I have a 3 bunches of Anacharis floating and planted. A log piece for hiding as well. A sponge around the filter intake and lighting, heating.

The only other tank i have is my turtle tank which anything i put in there would be food.

Im just worried about the other mother eating this mother's fry when they come out. There are 3 places for them to hide but its not like the mother isnt capable of accessing the Anacharis or the log.

Theyre both pregnant but one is due sooner. Can tell from the size of the belly and the gravid spot.

There are currently only 2 guppies in the tank. And a couple snails that came with the Anacharis.

And she's already begun losing her appetite.

Just provide more plants and don't bother with the fry. Most of the fry that survive will thrive longer than most because they are usually the strongest. Strong enough to escape predation that is.:)

i tried to leave my females to have their fry in the main tank but my Guppy that was huge died maybe it stressed her out or the other fish killed her so this time i put my female in a breeding trap and now she is giving birth 15 so far

That is possible.:) A method like that prevents circulation of oxygen hence the fish is drowned to death.

my female had 20 in the end and the fry are feeding well . just put my other female in there now. looks like i am gona need another tank (lol)

With livebering fish, you will find you will need a lot of other tanks if you continue to save and raise the fry. They can have more fry every 30 days, and typically can have between 30 - 50 each time.
