Well i myself saw a few shops selling plants that belong planted in the back of the yard as water plants(one shop was selling grass! yes grass, common grass) so it is not a surprise if yours are the same.
For now let them there and keep an eye on them, you will soon find out if they belong there or not.
I for one have never seen that plant on an aquarium plant list or in any sort of water plants info page.
But be it a water plant or not the tank still is very nice looking since you made the changes.

I like the wood peice. I like what you have done to your tank. For a tall good low light plant I would get Vallisneria, I have spiral val also. It grows good and you can cut it to any length. I trim it when it starts growing to the top of the tank. It grows like a weed. It reminds me of kelp. I would take that moss you have on the wood and spread it out and tie it down with fishing line and add Java ferns to the wood also with the java moss you have. It looks so nice once the moss amd java ferns grow out on the wood.

Oh, forgot, keep the tall plants behind or to the side of that piece of wood, it would be a pitty to hide it behind tall plants, that wood looks amazing!
On the wood use as eileen said moss and java ferns but not to much/many you want that wood to still show as it is very nice.
You can also use some anubias nana on the wood, that to looks pretty good if you get it in the right place.

Plants are usually tied down to the wood and i like to use fishing nylon, lasts forever and whatever i tie with it it's tied forever(or till i remove it ).
But why worry about that, you said the wood is not fake?

Oh, my bad, well even if it is fake you can still tie the plants to it with fishing string(nylon or whatever it's called in english).

Yeah just get some colored thread to tie them down. If you get an anubias I don't see why the roots still wouldn't wrap around after a month or two just like real wood. They attach well to stones also.
