I also have 2 of the "rare" mollies..........They are sold at the local "Petsmart" ...........
In my view, the rare molly is perhaps an Adult Sailfin molly. The get rather large ,I have seen some at nearly four inches long. I say rare ,because most die before reaching this size due to being kept in less than ideal conditions. I am also quite fond of the lyretail black variety.
The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.
Nothing rare is ever sold at Petsmart. They are a big box type store that onbly carries the fish that come from a corporate selection and do not carry rare fish. The most that can be said for a new fish is that they might carry one that they have not carried in the past so it will be new to them. Mollies are quite commonly bred i lots of color and fin combinations. Petsmart may have managed to buy some that were fairly new on the market and so have not been seen in your area before.
