I would suggest getting a group of 2 males and twice as many females. The males have sword-like tails and the females don't. The males will most likely get all of the females prgnant and about 3-4 weeks alter they should have their first batch of fry and every month for six months will have another batch of fry. Some fish stores will give you store credit for giving them fish (usually 50 cents for each fish but sometimes less) If you manage to save all of the fry for each batch of fry you could end up geting 8 dollars for each set of fry since a female will lay between 10 and 30 fry every month even without a male. When the feamles get bigger they can have more than 30 fry per batch. The parents will eat the fry so make sure to take them out of the tank or let the females have their babies outside of the tank or in a breeder net and when they are done put them back in the tank with the other fish. If you want you can have a school of platies that are all different colorations and they will still breed. i would recommend having a tank at least 10 gallons depending on how many fry you are willing to produce.

thank you,i changed having a koi swordtail to having a red wag sword tail. She is pregnant and will probably deliver in a week since i am starting to see her gravid spot.I have a floating breeding trap for her and her babies. It has a top and bootom section so her babys fall to the bottom part until they bigger and they can go in the main tank.Do all the same rules apply for red wags?I think she will only have 5-15 fry because i dont feed her live foods and i only feed her once a day.
