platy shapes

Me again with another dopey question :lol:

Are male n female platys different shapes? 4 of our platys are kinda short n rounder but the other 1 is like long n sleek. They all looked the same when we bought them.

I looked at the fins and they all looked fan shaped. The skinny fish now looks pointy on the fins. Can they change???

are you sure there all platy???....i know that some swordtails are quite slender....also are the fatter ones female and the skinnier 1 a male ...that could be the answer...if you dont know how to sex them then post some pics we can help :):):)

i know that if a platy is born "different" they wont breded ...usually...my female has like a zip zag back from above...sad for me really really want fry ....i guess il hav to make do with my guppy fry...lol.....and do you know how to sex them ???...:):):)

As far as I understand...the anal fins r fan shaped if female n pointy if male. Could b wrong. But the diff shaped fish had fan shaped fins but theyv got pointy so I really dont know. Thanks for helping me

yes by the sounds of it you had young males that still had a fan shaped fin and then as they matured they developed the long fin ...thats called a gonopadia ...i think :):):)
