Exclamation Platy ich

My platy has been recently infected with ich. I have other fish in the same tank, all livebearers and they are a female Hi-Fin platy (infected), 3 guppies male and female, 2 black mollies also male and female, and three red cherry shrimp. What kind of treatment am I supposed to use for the parasites? I am new to fishkeeping and this is my first livebearer tank.

Raise the temp to at least 86 and leave it there for 2 weeks. That's it! That's all I ever do - works every time with no instances of reinfection. The elevated temp disrupts the life cycle, killing off the parasites. Should see improvement after 2-3 days, and the fish should be spot free by 5 days. If after a week there are still spots I would kick it up to 88-89 and start the 2 week countdown over again.

The fish can handle the treatment just fine - I've administered heat treatments (88 degrees) to more than 50 species of fish and have not found one that couldn't take it - even sensitive and cold water species.

Hopefully someone can comment on the shrimps ability to handle the heat.

I concur with the above. If you just have to do more add a little aquarium salt. 1 tbs per 5gal. The ich life cycle requires it to drop off and go to the bottom. Ich hates heat and salt. Both disrupt the ich reproduction cycle. Keep in mind, ich is always there, stressed fish make ich take off.

Ich is not always there. When it's been eradicated from the tank, it's gone until you reintroduce it.
