I don't think a breeders net would be bad at all. As far as telling the gender of the fry, that's not happening for about a month or more (maybe less). All fry start out looking like females. The males get their swordtails later. You probably won't be able to tell their gender if you trade them in at 1/2".

well they will be hybrid fry??! Platy/ swordtail so will they still have the swordtail? And if they are about 2 inches i will get some store credit so.................

I've had swordtail fry but never hybrids. I don't know about the swordtail fry, then. Your petstore only takes fry after they are 2 inches? I guess maybe you need to setup a fry tank if you can afford it. You will probably be getting alot more fry then you can put in breeders net.
