My pregnant platy

I am torn up about this pregnant fish. She is a mickey mouse kiind.... and this is her first batch of fry. I have read many posts saying that the breeding cup business is very stressful for mama fish. BUT, in the main tank, all of her peers are SO DARNED mean to her. They are nipping at her belly and chasing her all over the tank and top speeds as if they are looking for their lunch to come out of her hoo-ha. So, nervously i bought a filtered little gallon and a half tank for her to rest and give birth in.... but no fry yet. Do you think that this also is a stressful environment or have i provided her with shelter?? She seems very mellow, but still no fry after 2 days...

If you have erred, it is on the side of kindness and with the best of intentions. Is the new tank heated ? The move was probably stressful but, I think she is getting some rest now. I think you are right about the lunch. Fish are smart about where a good meal is to be found. Back to the 1 1/2 gal tank, the water should be at a comfortable temperature for her. They sell little heaters for that size tank. What are your plans for the fry ? Best of luck with your Minnie.

I did have a small heater laying around.... keeping it a cozy 76... but still no fry. She is getting a bit "boxy" at the belly.. should be soon now. Thank you so much for the reply... and i do believe she looks very relaxed. Thanks. I am excited to move about 5-6 fry to the 55 gallon tank when they get bigger, and the rest are going to my daughters very empty 40 gallon....~!
