Very Pregnant.jpg

I took her out of my dd's tank and put her into a cycled 5 gal that had some baby fish in it already, i don't know how many baby fish i had in there before i put the platy in the tank. I just knew she was going to have them soon as she was so big/heavy.

I did put down some breeding grass on the bottom of the tank so the fry can hide. I don't know if she's done having her babies so i will leave her in the 5 gal for a few days or should i move her now??

I can't see any fry in there yet but i know there in there as the platy is no where near as big as she was last night.

This pic is her this morning, after giving birth i'm sure.

the morning after (2).jpg

Thanks for looking!

If you have plenty of hiding spots for the fry then it would be safe to leave the female in there for a 24 hour period but I wouldn't leave her in there for a substantial amount of time as this ups the odds that you are going to lose some of those fry, if possible for future reference I would recommend getting a fry divider for situations such as this so the fry can easily swim away after being released and you have little to no risk of the female consuming them.

I wouldn't expect the Platy to give birth to any additional fry after the first 24 hours, usually when the fry start coming few and far in-between that's a sign she is almost done.

Congrats on the new ones and I hope for the best.
