Unhappy My fish are showing signs of Ich and Whirling...

Just yesterday I had a female die from Ich(I assume). I have been treating the tank for 3 days. Only one other fish was showing signs of Ich and I Euthanized her when she started showing advanced signs of Whirling. Another(my male/ favorite) is now starting to exhibit the same behaviors of the female I Euthanized ...do I need to break down my tank and bleach it as I read on a few other posts? I don't know where to go from here as I have never had these problems before. Please helpp...

Ich is easy to diagnosis, because fish appear to be sprinkled with salt. They do sometimes "flash" like they are trying to get something off of them, prior to the physical signs.

It's pretty treatable, and I don't think many fish die from it, unless it's just completely left without care.

Thank you, I have been treating the tank for 3 days. Hopefully that issue resolves itself. I would really like to know more about the whirling disease?

I've never heard of it. Google it, and see what you learn :)

Well, welcome to the forum! I never have much luck getting replies in the diseases thread. There are some knowledgeable people on here, for this kind of thing, but it's not me. I would hesitate to break down my tank, and use bleach, because you will have to start completely over again with cycling.

I'm sorry for you Having sick fish is never fun. I hope someone sees this, and can help you

I have raised my temp very slowly to 78-79 and have added a tbsp of salt per 10 gallons

I've tried Super Ich Cure and Jungle lifeguard and while they worked in the past I was hoping for a more natural approach.

I agree with the natural approach, but if it doesn't work, try Kordon's rid-ich plus. I am not getting paid for this endorsement, but I have been in your situation, and found it worked for me. I add salt, since the livebearers seem to do well with it, and it seems to keep down the ich, but I have found I usually get ich after buying new fish. One thing nice about mollies and platties, once they started breeding I haven't had to buy anymore!

It kind of depends on what type of fish you have, some are more sensitive to salt and high temps, like loaches and catfish types, but you need to add more salt. I've heard it's a tsp per gallon. Also your temps can go higher, most fish can tolerate that, but do it slowly. When I treated ich that way, I had my tank up to 85 and the fish did fine
