I REALLY want a female platy. I've got three boys, one of which is king of the tank and the other two are completely submissive. Do you think she'd be ok in there? I think the only one that'd chase her would be Tubby the dominant one.

My big male red calico dominated my male MM but that didnt stop both from chasing all the females. After a few days all the girls hid all the time from both males.

Update: The 3 babies are growing fast. They have black specks on their caudul fins! Next week they are being put into their own 10 gallon to grow in peace.

Update: Bought bloodworms as a treat for my platy girls and as soon as they hit the bottom of the tank I saw a fry eating one. Yes thats right there are 4 fry girls now. Red calicos by the looks of it too.

After 10 days you probably won't be able to tell the sex. In my experience all fry look female and eventually the gonopodium becomes apparently and grows fully when matured.

"He situates himself in relation to time. He takes his place in it. He admits that he stands at a certain point on a curve that he acknowledges having to travel to its end. He belongs to time, and by the horror that seizes him, he recognizes his worst enemy. Tomorrow, he was longing for tomorrow, whereas everything in him ought to reject it."

Unfortunately I lost 2. My son tipped over the floating box they were in and 2 got out and became lunch. So the surviving 2 are getting big and getting more black on them everyday. The nitrite levels in the 10 gallon are coming down so hopefully soon The babies will get a bigger home. 2 of my red calicos are getting quite large too so hopefully soon there will be more babies!
Thanks for asking.
