Hey everyone, I have a ten month old gold/yellow balloon molly. A few months ago he started developing black coloration, which I researched heavily with all the details to find that it was not a disease, but instead just part of his DNA. This is nothing critical, but when should I expect this color change to end, and how much black might there be on his body? At the moment he only has small black freckles, almost like a dalmatian molly, but not as many spots. Thanks
I once wondered that myself. Apparently some, if not all mollies, change color throughout their entire lives. Some tend to get darker with age, others get lighter. It usually slows down a bit, but it keeps happening. If he's one of those that stops changing colors, it should be done by 6-8 months, but most mollies with spots tend to keep getting more as they get older. I haven't heard of them continuing to get more random spots from a non-spotted area after that age...but another user on here told me she had a dalmation molly that started almost white and when it died of old age it was almost black. lol
Thanks so much! The spots seem to have slowed, but still continue to show up... looks like I'll end up with a molly similar to your friend's
