So the male MM Platy is attacking a female black-neon hifin Variatus.
There is another female Sunburst platy in the tank that the MM male has been
trying to court/mate with. Whenever the the Variatus gets near the male while it is
next to the sunburst female, it attacks it with a fury.

Anyone have any ideas why the male is attacking it?

Thanks~~

Sounds like hes being territorial. You may have to separate them. What is the m/f ratio? Are you sure your hi fin is female?

2:1. Yes the Variatus is a female. There is one female sunburst platy, the male mm, and the female variatus hi-fin. There are also two balloon mollies, one male, one female, who have no problems with the platies.

That is odd.I've never seen aggression from a male. You may have to rehome him. IME, when the ratio is 2;1, removal is the only way.

Well, he's not getting a new home as I only have one tank. The female sunburst has been using up her stored sperm that she acquired before I purchased her, denying the current male from mating. That may have something to do with his aggression, or maybe frustration.
