i was just wondering what would be a cool type of fish to get for my next aquarium. it will probley be from 40 to 50 gallons ... i would like to stay with the livebearers because i do want to be able to breed the fish.. so preferabley some fish that breed easily ... please post some suggestions with maby some pictures
First off with livebearers they do better in hard slightly akaline water. Do you know what the ph and the hardness of your water is. Now a days you can find the informatiion on your water hardness online from your local water people. As for suggestions of some different livebearer fish there are guppies, platys, and common molly, which are some of the most common livebearer fish that are available. You can look up their profiles here, the tropical fish profiles link is located at the top of the page second tab from the left. Out of those three guppies can be very colorful with a lot of different variations that are available.

Just something to keep in mind with livebearers a good ratio to have is 2-3 females to every male. This will help to keep the male from harassing a single female to death. If you end up doing a 40 to 50 gallon tank, you will have plenty of room to be able to keep those ratios.
Warning: You may accidentally cross breed these. Trust me, a pluppy (platy guppy) is not a pretty picture. I would say make a beautiful collection of all one species. Say several colors of platies or mollies or guppies. I like guppies because of the patterns and the ease of gravid spot sight.
Other fish that I would add would be a school of cory cats, at various tetras. Say neons or lemons. I think they add alot because they swim at different levels than the livebearers who normally will stay at the top.
From my understanding guppys and platys can not crossbreed. The are two completely different type of species. Guppies and Mollys can cross breed, and Platys and Swordtails can crossbreed. But those are the only combinations that I know of. With crossbreeding Guppys and Mollys it is not recommended the resulting fry are infertile, and are not sellable at petshops or fish stores.
thanks u all and honestly ik ppl disagree with me but i dont care if they crossbreed........ and along with what i said i will get earlier i am probly gonna maby get some barbs and lemons
