Have three new babies.....not sexed of course ...but oh boy! oh boy! Three that we saw I should say. These pics are of one of the fry just hours old. I still can't believe I got the shots!

Hoping to wake up to wall to wall fry. They have plenty of java grass to hide in and he put in a piece of flat slate, built up a bit, enough for the fry to hide but adults can't fit.

Redlessi - they are fry of the Red Sword Tails.....my avatar is a pic of one of the males. You can see him better in my aquariums pics.

As far as we can tell no one was eaten, they have pretty good shelter. We fed the females as soon as we saw the babies in hopes of curbing their appetite. Of course that doesn't mean any that may have been dropped overnight didnt' end up as a snack for someone.

Twistersmom - Thanks, yes they are. Heck, even the adults are hard to capture in photo! I've been going nuts with the photos lately. Found two settings in particular on my camera that seem to work extremely well for tank shots.

This is for any body that wants more males in a drop. FishySuzy you said that all you get are females. I read this and it seems to be true. To get more males you need to lower the temp. to your tanks during gestation of the females to 69-70 degrees. If you want more females it is 79-81 degrees or above.
I had a drop of fry in March and I got alot of males because I lowered the temp in the tank before the female gave birth. The eggs develop at a slower pace so instead of 28 day it might take longer. Warmer temps the eggs mature faster and end up with more females. I have a friend and she told me that she gets females all the time. It's because the room that all her many tanks in is warm and she can not keep the room temp below 80 degrees. I have my tanks in a cooler area of my home away from windows or sun so mine stays cooler. Maybe after summer is over and the weather cools more and you lower the tanks temperture to 69-70 you will end up with more males.i

Now I get why I always see females.

I guess I can't do anything since it's naturally hot where I am. My lone breeding male molly just died so I guess I have to buy a new one. I don't spot any males in the current batch of fry.

Give your mollies a few months Adiumroot. All new born molly fry always look like females. It can take several months of good growth before you can spot any males among them. Now that my last molly drop, the last one I bothered to save, is almost 7 months old, there are some obvious males among them. At only 4 months old I would have said they were all females.
You do not need a new male unless you want to promote fry births for a long time. The female will carry viable sperm packets for as much as 6 months after the male died.
