I'm loosely considering guppies for a 10 or 20 gallon. However, I do not want to deal with fry. Will an all-male group live together OK? Or an all-female group?

I think an all male or all female group would be fine. I don't blame you for not wanting fry. Guppies breed like rabbits.

Likely they would eat any fry unless you have a well planted tank. All males work as well.
