How long to leave Zucchini

I would like some information on how long I should leave a section of Zucchini (or any veggies I feed) in the tank for my Platy's. When feeding flakes I have read to only give as much as will be eaten in a 1 minute period, does the same hold true when feeding vegetables? Should I drop it in the tank and then remove it 1 minute later?

I've heard 12-24 hours. But you should still monitor it as it may start to grow white mold if left in too long.
