I know theres tons of these threads, but none really help me at all, so I'm sorry if its all a bit repetitive :( I haven't had pregnant guppies since I was a kid, so its all a bit new. Over the last few months I've just been slowly adding to my 30 gallon tank (to make sure the water settled ok - which it has :D). I only have guppies in there (3 males, and about.. 8 females?), 2 tiny corys and an albino ruby shark. All are doing fantastic :D Just it seems most of the females are coming to the end of their pregnancies... but if any of you with more experience know by these pictures when for me to expect some fry then that would be fantastic! I've tried leaving them to give birth naturally in the tank but none of the fry have survived - even with plenty of plants and places to hide - they just get eaten and dont stand a chance. So I'd just like to know in advance when to start putting them in a breeding box so that some fry actually survive!
(hope the pics uploaded in the right order!)
So the first fish (orange tail), she's only little, and doesnt have a very big belly, but her gravid spot is now quite orangey... and from what i can see it almost seems like its the fry that you can see (can see the odd little black dot - eyes?), I'd of thought that means shes near? but what would I know!
the second one was one of the first I got! shes starting to look really big and slightly squared off (but I', not convinced I'm a 100% sure on what I define as being "squared off"). Shes been hanging around on her own all of today, hiding by the heater and filter - one of the males keeps pestering her too. sign right?
But on the 4th pic you can see how many of them are pregnant :( (I came into about 4 of them for free the other week off a friend who was having to get rid!), but the one in the top of the picture is huge too, but shes really lively and doesnt look that squared off to me?
But please... give me all the knowledge you know!!
(and by the way I do have more plants - some ground and floating plants, they were just in the breeder box for now as I was giving the tank a good clean and they were in the way!)
