Help Me Fill My Tank!
After losing my dear Bianco, I realized two things,
1. Bettas are beautiful, but made of heartache
2. I love having fish
So while I'm swearing off Bettas for the time being, at least until I have more experience and the loss of Bianco isn't so fresh, I do have a brand new 10 gallon tank to stock.
Right now it's depressing to look at, nothing but brown and tan gravel and a hand-me-down castle from my mom which I don't much like, tell you the truth. On Wednesday I'm going to the local aquarium store to get two beautiful fancy guppies.
So, any suggestions what else to get? I'm going to stick with the guppies for now, but I think we all know they're not going to have the tank to themselves for long.

The Good: I got my guppies! Three of them. Ponyo has a fiery orange tail, Lotus has a flamboyant black-and-red tail, and Plasma is electric blue from the lower half down to her tail fin. I'm considering them all girls until something proves me wrong.
The Bad: My mom's digital camera is evil and won't let me get a clear shot. Thus, no piccies.

They are very easy to sex and you do want to know. If you have 3 females, you have fry coming and need to be ready for them. I have pictures of a similar fish that is sexed the same way. As FishySuzy said the female has a fan shaped anal fin, the fin right next to where they eliminate waste. This is a female.
The male has an anal fin that is more of a line shape and is called a gonopodium. This is a male of the same species.
Guppies are sexed exactly the same way but the gonopodium on a guppy is not as long as the one on my Heterandria. Same shape though.
