Hey guys. I need to know something. My Swordtail is pregnant, probably about 2 weeks now. I want to put her in my other fish tank with my pragnant Platy. My problem is that the mail, looks like he is really in love and is all around the female. I don't want her to be irritated with him. She needs to be calm for the next 2 weeks. PLZ help. Thanx
Platies and swordtails are from the same family and can mate with each other that's why it is following her around and being a pest. Best to not have it with any male. Also when you have another pregnate female they sometimes chase any fish away from them a few weeks before birth. But another female would be better then a male if you do not have a place to put your fish.
Hey. Thanks for the info. I placed the Swordtail with my pregnant Platy in my other tank, but the Swordtail chases the poor Platy and he nips her fins every now and then. Should I perhaps put the Platy in a breeding net to keep her safe so long. I think she has about 1 week to go. I have photos of them in my aquarium if you wanted to look. I really wish they could talk, so I knew when they will be giving birth.
