Unhappy Female or Male Platy

Today I went to Petco and got a Bumblebee Platy. I asked for a female Bumblebee Platy, and when he picked it out her anal fin was fanned like a female, but the second she went in the plastic bag and now in my tank, it has been tucked in. Could it be that she is just stressed out and tucked it in, or is it a male? I would like to know ASAP because we are going back there tomorrow! Please help if possible!
Sorry I don't have any pictures yet but MAYBE soon...

Under stress or swimming they will retract their fin, but you can usually tell the difference, with out pictures its hard to say.

And his/her anal fin is frayed... Should I be worried?

If it is the same fish that was netted and you definitely saw the round/fanned anal fin before that, as zof said, she could just be keeping it retracted due to being stressed in a new environment.

How frayed is the anal fin (or do you mean the tail fin?), if she is keeping the anal fin tucked in as you mention she/he is, you may not be seeing it properly. A lot of fish we buy may look a little ragged with nipped fins, due to being in overstocked tanks etc.,but usually with some TLC, a good diet and water quality, they usually heal very quickly on their own.

Picture will definitly help. Sometimes my females will retract their fin. As for the frayed fin picture will help also. Keeping the water conditions good, ammonia and nitrites 0 and nitrates reading no more than 20. Keeping the water clean will help in promoting growth in the fin if it is caused from fin nipping.
