Do Livebearers Stop Having Babies?
One of the first fish i purchased for my tank was a very large female guppy. I suppose she full was grown when i got her because she has never gotten any bigger, as such i don't really have anyway to tell how old she was when i got her.
She has given me several big batches of fry on a very normal cycle, a new batch coming every few weeks. But for the last month or two, she hasn't shown any signs of giving birth or even being pregnant, which is very strange for a female guppy! It looks very strange to see her swimming around the tank all skinny and with almost no gravid spot.
i know the male in the tank isn't the problem, he continues to chase all the girls around, and the others are still giving birth on their normal cycles. My question is: Is this normal for a guppy? Could she be so old she has gone through a kind of guppy menopause and is no longer able to bear fry? Or could it be a sign of a problem in the tank?
thanks for all your help. =)
Glad to see the site is back up and running.
