Did she birth or?

Okay so I got a platy a couple days ago, she seemed very pregnant (dark gravid spot, balloon body, the usual) I put her in with my other platies and watched her carefully for 2 days. Last night she was chasing my male (which I heard was a sign of labor) but physically she hadn't changed. This morning I noticed she was a LOT skinnier, and slightly box shaped, as if she just gave birth. Only problem is there are no babies, I suppose they got eaten if she did give birth but I thought there'd at least be one or two left running around. Any thoughts?

They're either hiding where you can't see them or they got eaten. If it happens again just be sure to have a thick floating plastic plant and one at the bottom too for them to hide in. And if you're determined to have the babies next time, just move her to a different tank until after she delivers and you can raise the babies separately.

Aw, poor things. I was hoping to save them. I have a second female (Not the same one as I was talking about before) who I suspect to be pregnant. I'm not sure, here's a photo so ya'll can decide, It's a blurry one but she darts around so fast I couldn't get a better one. Her gravid spot is pretty dark, but she isn't all that fat. Early stage or natural coloration?

She's probably pregnant if she's been mixed with males for a while. She doesn't look very big but may not get huge if it's her first carry. So hard to say when you haven't had them very long. It's my understanding that if water parameters aren't right they may not deliver the babies. And they won't "impregnate" again until they are good. I say this because they can carry sperm for a long time and not develop embryos if environment's not suitable for fry. You should look up "how to breed Platties" if you are interested in having babies. Good luck :)

My guess is the fry got eaten, Platys will eat fry pretty fast, I have 2 tanks of platy and their numbers stay the same they some fry grow up but most don't. Not sure what it is with them most live bearers don't eat the fry but platys do.
