dead swordtail

I bought a red swordtail today, male, and he died within four hours of me getting him home.

He went into the tank, swam to the bottom, hung out in the corner and by the second period of the hockey game he was belly up.

I'm new to the hobby. I have a community tank with one cory, two platies, and three guppies. Nothing has died until today. I change my water regularly, and test it regularly. Again, no other fish have died.

Did I buy a dying fish?

Thanks.

So sorry,Its horrible losing a fish. I too am new to this but that doesn't sound right. Take it back to the store with a sample of your tank water and get them to test it, it'll put your mind at rest one way or another, otherwise you're gonna worry about your others.

Sorry about your loss. A few questions to help determine what might have happened. How long has your tank been established? Do you know what your water parameters are for the tank, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels. Along with the ph of the water? When you added the swordtail dd you do anything to acclimate him to your tank, if you did what? Or did you just put him into the tank?
