Both are still similar species. Balloons are deformed strains. Best not attempt to breed your regular molly with a 'balloon'.

I have had Regular mollys breed with the Balloon molly and most if not all the young resembled the regular strain. The ones that didn't were even more deformed and none survived more than a week or two. :(
