Baby Endlers.

I was just given 6 baby Endlers ranging in size from 1/2 - 3/4 in or so. I read that a good diet for them is veggie and meaty flakes as well as freeze-dried blood worms. I have them both but it seems as though the blood worms will be to big for them to eat. Should I wait until they get bigger to feed them blood worms? About when will they start to color up? I'd like to know how many of what sex I have?

Hi Stoke. You sound stoked. I raise hundreds of endlers for my local F S. Thye are pretty much vegetarians but some protein helps them grow faster. This is what I feed the couple hundred I have. I make a crushed mix with a rolling pin of 1 part carnivore sinking pellets and 4 parts Hikari sinking Algae wafers. I also give them fresh hatched brine shrimp one day a week and blanched spinach or beet tops. My fry are mature in 9 weeks with this diet. It is also important to keep the water CLEAN. I do 75% changes each week. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. They are happily eating Tropical Flakes as we speak but would like to give your recipe a try. About how long does it take the Endlers to mature enough to reporduce? I have a larger female with a brown area behind the stomach. Any ideas?

Stoke. From new born to giving birth to there own is only about 3 months. Just a single female can have about 20 young every 29 days even with out a female around. They are able to store sperm packets from a single mating and us them for the next two or three birthing cycles. You shpuld have many new friends soon. Have Fun.

I can't find endlers anywhere around here either! I wonder why they're so hard to find?

I couldn't find them for the longest time in my area either. Now that I have found them they're in every LFS. The basic colored Endlers are used as feeders around here. Mine aren't producing babies as much as I'd like. I don't know if there are getting eat as soon as they are released or what.
