Platies take along time to determine the sex. One of mine that I thought was a female after having it for several months turned into a male later. At Petsmart they have dwarf coral platies and if you look into the tank everyone looks to be female. They just take awhile to determine. It's hard to say how long it will take. Maybe someone else knows more about this.

All my Bumblebee Platies at this point all look like females but wth that mainy in my 20 gal I know some will turn into males. Sometimes you can tell ahead of time because the females will have a darker gravid spot in the back even thought they are not pregnate. That's how I tell the Guppies I have apart at 5-6 weeks even thought the males have not fully developed yet and the males will color up faster then the females in guppies.
