Why did my ramshorn snail die?

My ramshorn snail died this morning. Well at least I think its dead. Yesterday, I found it lying on its side and its foot was still out. It did not look like its usual behaviour but I just left it. This morning, the shell looks empty. Havent checked it out yet. Im not sure about the water conditions but I have another ramshorn snail in the same tank and it is doing fine. Why did it die and should I be concerned or was it just that the snail itself was not well.

I just have a few questions. What other fish do you have in the tank? How long have you had your snail? How are you sure it is dead, or even if the shell is empty?

Took a long time for my snail to show signs of death, but its shell door didn't close so I knew it was dead and took it out immeadiatly. But I probably had a different species (I don't know what is was but it wasn't what my lfs told my it was)...

If you know your snail is dead then it needs to be removed from the tank. Even before my first snail died, I was so impatient that I almost thought he was dead several times (that was just in-expirienced, impatient me, though. first snail).

And, testing the water parameters are a good idea in a time like this, and it is a good idea to test an established aquarium every 2 or so weeks. Hope this helps!

LOL my bad, I came home and I found the shell the right way up but I still cant see the foot. However, with the light, I can actually see a darker part in the shell, which Im guessing is the snail itself hiding in its shell. Think its going to be ok but Ill just keep checking on it. I keep female fighters in the tank by the way but I plan to do a tank makeover and add other fishes and plants.
