What type of snails are these?

I've somehow ended up with some random snails in one of my tanks, I think they came in on some plants I bought, even though I rinsed the plants well before adding them to the tank! At this stage I can see four of them. Can anyone tell me what type of snails these are?

Personally I don't think they're bad, people have varying opinions when it come to snails. They will reproduce, if you are over feeding then they will reproduce faster. They will feed on algae, leftover food, dead and dying plant matter. They may eat live plant matter but I think that's only if there is nothing else to eat.

I have them in all of my tanks and they haven't 'taken over' I like snails, to me they are a natural part of my mini ecosystems.

It looks like a common pond snail to me. They won't hurt anything but they are unsightly when you get hundreds in the tank. If you over feed your fish then your snails will breed like crazy so watch how much you feed and that will keep the population down.

A easy to to remove extra snails is to put a cup with a piece of cucumber inside at night then in the morning remove the cup. If you don't put it in a cup most of the snails will drop off as you lift it out of the water.
