Trying to breed snails with no luck!

Trying to breed snails with no luck!
I've been trying to breed pond snails and ramshorn snails in a tank in my window sill but I'm not having much luck. (I keep F8 puffers)

My daughter has just set up a small 8g tank with guppies, (heated, filtered and cycled) if I dropped a few snails in there do you think they'd breed quicker or would I over run here little tank before I could blink?

Read more: Can anyone in UK supply me with some common pond snails?

Can you explain the tank on your window? How big is it...does it have a heater?

Because its in the windowsill your problem may be that the temperature is in constant fluctuation...which means the snails are not going to want to breed.

Also how much/what are you feeding them?

Snails only breed in a tank where they have ample food. If you want snails, then overfeed them.

For a snail-only tank, I would use something unlikely to pollute the water... Algae tabs would be a good choice.

Snails don't overrun tanks unless you overfeed them. Do you use live plants? What kind of filtration do you use?

I would add some dolomite or crushed coral to make sure they have plenty of calcium, add some fast-growing plants (if you don't have them already), and add a heater if you don't have one. They will reproduce in coldwater, but they prefer tropical.

Isn't that funny. You want snails and can't get them and I didn't want Ramshorns and had thousands of them. I finally had to go get a few Assassins to get rid of them. Now, there are not many left, if any.

It's almost comical isn't it, so many people on here are desperate to get rid of their snails and I just cant get them going!!!!

I did post before I tried to get my ramshorns to breed but I can't get them to mass produce. As for MTS and physas...well, they're always special. The purple ones I wanted to breed more but couldn't. The icky brown ones breed though despite my lack of interest in them.
