Stocking a new tank w/ snails....

Hi Y'all- need your opinions on stocking a new tank (100Gal) with snails. I'll be having cories and/or loaches. I already have 1 pictus, soon to be 3, tomorrow! I have a sand substrate. I read that snails help keep the sand *stirred*, thereby avoiding the dreaded gas pockets. Of course, I will also stir the sand around during weekly water changes. Is adding a few snails overkill?? I think snails are so cool but don't want to overstock....

After I posted I realized how much I HATE snails in my garden (they eat EVERYTHING that's green) and this tank I'm doing will be planted. I assume Malaysian snails eat food debris AND plants. If they have enough food debris will they leave the plants alone??

They don't tend to eat plants, they prefer dead over alive plants. I imagine only if it was starving it might eat your plants.
