Snails and calcium?

About four days ago, I accidentily injure my gold mystery snail while rescuing him from being stuck upside down. After the rescue manouvre, I noticed a chip out of the edge of his shell which he has since magically healed over, but he is still acting very out of sorts. (Sitting in the same place in the tank for 24 hours at a time.)

What is the best way to give my snail the calcium he needs to rebuild his shell?

Some people put Tums in the tank, or I put a calcium pill in the tank. You can use a cuttlebone that you buy at a petstore to put in the filter it adds calcium to the water, Crushed shells, crushed egg shells in a nylon bag. Or you can feed it calcium rich food like frozen french green beans, spinich that as been blanched and put in the tank. Remove any uneaten food after a certain time. You can buy calcium rich food at http://www.Kensfish.com Kens premium pellets has calcium in it.

Would putting a Tums in the tank be safe for my other fish? I have danios, platies, and a dwarf gourami with my snail in my 20 gallon.

You can Google it. Tums for snails. I have other fish in my tank also. It clouds the water but I have had no problem. I just put a small peice of it in my tank not the whole tablet. It might be best to just buy the cuttlebone and put that in your filter intake a small peice, My snails love the frozen french green beans. If you have any sea shells at your home you can add that to the tank as shells have calcium and will help also.

Snails love eating Caltrate, which is pretty much starch, calcium and vitamin D.
