Snails

I just got some snails in the mail along with some live plants. Do i need to acclimate the snails to my tank? also, how can i tell if they're all alive?

What species are these snails? Acclimate them like you do with your fish. As for telling them if they're alive, smell them. If they don't smell so bad, then they're still alive. If the snail fails to respond despite being pulled a little gently by the operculum to see if it is still alive, it may be dead.

I'm not sure exactly by they have spiral cone shaped shells.

Malaysian trumpet snails (Melania sp.). These are very hardy critters. They don't need to be acclimated.

So i noticed a tiny one on the glass last night, I'm going to assume someone had babies? I'd really rather them not gain an overly large population in my tank, what can i do to control this?

They are asexual livebearers. You can simply get rid of the adults and cut on feeding.
