snail's water levels

so I was reading an article about my new blue mystery snail on the internet yesterday, and it said the water level had to be several inches from the top of the tank or the snail will become unhealthy and die quickly.

1) i was wondering how true this is, if its something I should worry about. I dont like the looks of low water levels :P

2) why is this? im just curious what the difference of a couple inches makes if they have room to breathe and what not.

thanks in advance :)

The only real reason to lower the water level is to get clutches for breeding. I have kept water levels just below the very top and kept mysteries alive for many months. The only true need they have is to be bale to get to air with their syphon. If you fill the tank to the rim and there is no air between the rim and the glass the snail may not be bale to breath at the surface. 2-3 inches is not needed, maybe 1/2 inch at most. Right at the point where the trim is should be enough to allow for breathing for the snail instead of filling to where the hood sits on top of the inside of the rim.

Groovy :) thats where I like to keep my water level anyway so I dont see the surface of the water from outside the tank. And at that level there is plenty of room under the hood to breathe!

thanks tons F4A :)
