Shrimp Pulled into Filter

Hey guys,
I'm pretty darn new to aquariums, and I've found myself in a bit of a pickle. My 10gal tank currently has a few ghost shrimp, I've found out that a couple of them have gotten pulled into the intake tube for my filter (an AquaClear 20) even at lowest setting and were deposited into a pool of water under the filter media. I keep checking the filter to make sure there aren't any shrimp who were unlucky enough to venture close to the intake, but I'd rather prevent it from happening than have to fish the shrimp out of the filter on a regular basis. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Very simple. Fluval makes a sponge filter that goes over the intake. You should be able to find one at a fish store, like PetSmart, PetCo or others. It is black, and has a hole in the middle. I have an AquaClear and it does fit on the intake. You could also just take a filter media bag and tie it on to the intake - perhaps not as attractive, but would do the trick.

Awesome! That will definately work, thanks! Then do I just rinse the sponge out on a regular basis to keep it from getting nasty?

Yes. Probably once a week if fine, when you do a wc. I didn't do that, and realized, thankfully not too late, that I had little to no water movement, because it was plugged. So, yes, do rinse it in tank water regularly :)
