Rough Apple Snail Shell

I noticed my apple snail shell was looking a little rough, I took him/her out to take a better look and noticed the shell was not cracked but chipped maybe, the only way I can explain is that the shell isnt as smooth as I have seen on other snails. Is there anything I can do to make his/her shell better. He/she is currently in a 12 gallon with 2 corys, 6 tetras and 5 female bettas

What's your pH and KH? Pitting like that is usually caused by being kept in acidic water. If you can raise the pH to 7.0 or higher, it will stop this shell erosion.

I bought him/her with his rough shell about 2 months ago, I didnt realise they were supposed to have smooth shells until I saw a picture on the internet. My water PH is 7.4

That's good, then. That likely means it hasn't had any pitting happen since you got it. You could try feeding a calcium supplement (like Caltrate) to give him some more calcium to keep his shell strong.

Another way to add calcium to her diet is to throw a little piece of cuttlebone into the water. (That thing they sell for birds to file their bneaks on; it's actually made from the internal 'shell' of cuttlefishes, and so it is pretty much pure calcium).

The snail is in a tank with other fish though, would the calcium harm them?

Thanks

It shouldn't cause a problem for your other fish.
