Is this from my snails?

I put a blanched zuccini in my tank and left it there. I have 2 ramshorn snails and a zebra nerite in the tank. One of my snails has been in its shell for almost a week, and doesnt move, so im starting to think its dead. Its the second snail this has happened to.

Anyways, on the zuccini a filmy-looking white goo covered the top surface. is this from my ramshorn?

I took it out, because it was starting to disentigrate. But, no i put a piece of driftwood in and the same stuff is on it. I sucked some up with nmy turkey baster, but i have no idea what it could be. any ideas?

The goo could be protein I think. Any pics?

What are water parameters?
Temperature?

Sniff the "dead" snail to find out if it's really dead. Dead snails really stink.

Usually snails hangout of their shells when they die, so it might not be dead

If you leave any vegetable like squash, carrots, or cucumbers after a few days they will all get a gel-like film around them and if you try to remove them they will disintegrate in your hand. I have found that snails are disgusting and not only will they eat the vegetable fresh in the tank after a few days when it becomes that blob they like it even more. The I am not for sure that is what you have. The gel is normally a foggy clear and not white. And I have never seen it grow on non-food items like the wood. Could it be eggs? Google images of ramshorn eggs and nerite eggs to see if you can identify it.

Also, snails sleep for long periods of time too so before you chuck them in the can make sure you are 100% sure. Like others have said smell the snail..it will smell horrible if it is dead and if you pick it up and touch it and it has no reaction and its door is hanging..you have a dead snail.

Two of the biggest concerns when keeping snails is keeping the water hard and the pH above 7. That will cause them to stay in their shell because it is slowly killing them. Next snails are dirty so high ammonia is the next common problem..may need a water change..

What are your water parameters? Also do you use any chemical in your tank?
