Is my snail lazy?

I know nothing about snails.
I just got this one a week ago or so. (The store called it a "Gold" snail -- is that the same as a "Mystery Snail?")
I read other people's posts saying that their snails crawl around the tank constantly. My snail doesn't. He stays in the same place all day. (are snails nocturnal?) I know it's alive, since it closes up tight when bothered and it is in a different place every morning. But he's always on the "ground" I've only once found him up on a wall. Should he be more active? Is there anything I can do to encourage him to be more lively?

I can't identify the species since I'm not familiar with the specifics.

What's your water temperature? It could be too cold that's why the activity is lessened. Snails are cold-blooded creatures and are dependent on external temperature.

Also, what is it housed with? Maybe it's intimidated by tankmates that's why it doesn't like going around much.

It's a single snail in a 65 Gal. Temp is about 78-79F. Tankmates include 2 Clown Plecos, 4 Ottos, several Blackskirt tetras, a few small cherry barbs, a couple of pearl gouramis, and a old Betta.

What's your pH and hardness? That shell looks awful pitted to me, which means either your snail isn't getting enough calcium (via foods or from the water directly) or the pH is low enough that it's corroding his shell (or both). This leads to unhappy snails, which could be part of his laziness.
