MTS out of substrate

I have MTS in all of my planted tanks. They don't bother me because I don't see them much on the glass during the day. When they do come out, I vacuum the substrate and do a larger water change.
Sometimes I see them out when I feed my fish shrimps, other times is when I fertilize micro nutrients (I know they don't appreciate the copper..). But once in a while, they are all over the glass, in large numbers, racing to reach the surface, with no apparent reason.
Any idea what are they indicating?

Probably food. =) Mine do that too, and every so often come out, clean the glass, maybe lay eggs, and then go back home.

Turning on the Aquarium lamp in the morning is MY cup of coffee.
