I just set up a tank for Halocaridina rubra about 6 weeks ago and did it by slowly adding salt to an already established aquarium over several days. I first removed all plants, pond snails, and Ramshorn snails I could catch as I knew they would perish, but I left the MTS in.
Tank is now at 1.012 and fully cycled going through the maturing process before I add shrimp to further allow growth of bio film. The MTS? Doing fine and happy as ever.
Cool, thanks! Did you acclimate the MTS then? I already have the tank set up as brackish, so I guess I'll just put them in a separate tank first and slowly raise the salinity.
Yes I acclimated them, but was told you can just toss them in if Specific gravity is below 1.014....
