So I have an established planted, 37G tank for over two years now. 5 platys, 1 dwarf gourami. one nerite snail & a devil spike snail. I also have pond snails that made their way in over a year and a half ago when I last added some new plants. Now here's the strange part.

Other than some decor purchased off the shelf from petsmart over the past 3 months, I haven't added anything new to my tank. Now for some reason have MTS! I noticed the gravel was much cleaner over the past few months when vacuuming & my glass for the most part, is free of algae. How in the world did they get introduced to my tank?

They can hitchhike on almost anything, its also possible that they came in when you added the plants and took awhile to build up a population you noticed. If the other snails were cleaning things up there may have been fewer resources for the MTS. They often stay hidden in the substrate so a population usually goes unnoticed until it is large and the forage out of the substrate looking for food.

Mts !!!!

Maybe they were there all along, you just never noticed. They do spend most of their time down in the substrate. I suppose it is possible, that a fish accidently ingested a tiny snail which then survived passage through the fishes intestinal track and was then pooped out by a fish that you bought a while back. Are you feeding more than usual ?
:surprise:
