Question Ideal Water Parameters for Nerite Snails...?

I have been researching this issue for months now and keep getting conflicting information. I would like to know the close to perfect numbers that these snails need...especially focusing on calcium (shell health) Please only give me the information if you have personally had experience with these snails. I don't need "shooting from the hip" replies saying I need high calcium...and this temperature. I know a lot of bad information is spread through forums too. Please let me know the ideal parameters..PH, GH, KH, Ca..etc.. One of the biggest problems is that people only focus on PH and temp. I can't find any consistency with KH and haven't found anything on GH.

(I currently have them in freshwater..would it be better to keep them brackish or salt?

5 corona
4 zebra
5 olive

Help would be greatly appreciated,

danielle

I'll be interested in any answers also. I just got 2 zebra nerites last week.

So far everything is fine.

I just want to make sure I keep it that way!

;)...I will go ahead and answer my own question...I have confidence in all my research so I will share it with you and whoever else comes along to look.

Nerites need:

Temp: 65-85 degrees F
PH: 6.5-8.0
KH/GH: 12-18 dh(According to online research)
( On API Test Kit Instructions for Invertebrates it recommends a GH/KH range from 8-12 degrees)
In my opinion you should shoot for 12 degrees. That way you meet in the middle and can't go wrong..I think it is better to have more calcium and etc. than not enough.

This is one of the most important factors in owning one so don't be surprised if your snails shell deteriorates and dies if you knew you should have been checking and managing your GH/KH

Note: Have only been successfully bred in brackish to salt water. Sorry if you thought you could breed in freshwater aquarium.

Hope this helps!

Danielle
