Question I found a stow-away in my tank! What is it?

I just picked up a shipment of plants. The store I use is snail free, but for all intents and purposes I bought this batch off the truck, before they could be treated or whatever it is stores do. Anyhow, I got everything situated and an hour later noticed this little bugger hanging out in my big empty tank. The tank is cycling right now. Should I switch him over to my smaller planted algae rich tank? Do I need to inspect these plants for clutches? How big would a clutch be? How bad is a small snail infestation? What are the benefits of keeping this guy and any other guests? HELP!!! I never thought I'd have a snail like thing.

FYI this is actually about 1/4 of an inch long. I blew up the size a bit.

Malaysian Trumpet Snails. I have them in two of my tanks. They don't eat plants, consume algae and will stir sand around (a good thing) if that's the type of substrate you have.

PS. They are livebearers so you're not going to find any egg clutches. Yes, I'd move him to the algae infested tank.

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...
