Like other snails, they will eat left over food from the bottom of the tank. I have a few Assassins in another tank with no ramshorn snails and they are all doing just fine. No worries about them starving if you feed enough that some food makes it to the bottom.

Will they attack other larger snails such as the Mystery snails and Rabbit snails? I am guessing they will .. but thought I would ask anyways, because if not .. I will order some.

I ahve heard that if you have many assassins, they can gang up on larger snails, but that is subject to them being able to catch them. Generally the larger snails move faster so it may be more difficult for the assassins to catch.

$4 a piece is about right. To get rid of an infestation, I would add 1-2 for every ten gallons of water. (assuming you have hard water).

You could always add more, let them multiply, and then sell them all when your anil problem is gone.
Oh, and in response to speed- I've seen assassins hanging around, and they're quite slow, but they're like a cheetah- when they want to "sprint" after some food, they can go quite fast.

And MR ed, if they multiply that fast, then you need to stop overfeeding your fish.

the average is about 3.50. the are sexed and produce with a pair. without a source of food, they do "nibble" on carnivorous food but do not survive. i go to petsmart or petco for snails, usually free, and mine eats about 40/week with 7 snails.

I don't think I'm overfeeding. everything I put in normally gets consumed within 1 minute. and I feed only once, at most twice a day.

the darn snails are munching away the leaves of all my live plants. that's what pisses me off.

So are you saying that now you have to keep getting new pest snails to keep your assassin's fed?
that's not a problem I want to worry about down the road :)

My concern is for the Yellow Rabbit Snails (Tylomelania spec. Poso) that I have, and so far one juvenile. This specie has such a large and cumbersome shell which inhibits their movements. In the mean time, I will pick off as many of the pests that I can.
